April 17, 2025 off to Poland.
I haven’t slept particularly well, considering we didn’t make any reservations to visit Auschwitz–Birkenau tomorrow and we’re kind of going on a wing and a prayer.
We set off nice and early by about 8 AM and while we’re in a humungous tunnel, we get a call from our host, that we’ve just left, to tell us that we have forgotten our cords there. Oh good God and we try to be so organized. Anyways, we fly back there and gather our stuff and we’re off again. Only about an hour delay 🤷
It’s gonna be a long long day. as we are going to drive to our new hotel in Oswiecim, Poland. It’s supposed to be about a 6 hour drive. but turns out a little longer considering the couple of bad turns we made.
You can see our speed and the speed limit. 🥺The transport trucks reached out as far as your I can see on these highways
Can you believe that this is a mistletoe tree.
We’re in Poland now as you can see by the bathroom sign.
It’s been a long long driving day and I’m happy when we finally pull up at the Hotel Galicja . It’s a very upscale hotel and after we check in I’m trying to find out how to get up to our room with one door saying superior rooms and I can’t imagine that that’s our room but it is. We’re even entitled to two hours at the spa so we’ll be using that.
We take our stuff up to room 303 and it’s a room with a balcony. I can’t believe we’ve got such a nice room and I changed it from a one night to two nights. SWEET!!
We go down to their own hotel restaurant and have dinner. I have a pizza and wine and Richard has some pierogies and beer. It’s all very good and the price is right. It’s priced out in Polish Ziotis (ZL)and they equate to about $.37 Canadian dollars.
It’s getting dark, but we wanna kind of get ourselves focussed on what we’re gonna do in the morning so we drive out to Auschwitz II-Birkenau just to see about the parking and tickets and what have you.
We’re back at the hotel by 8:30 and ready for bed.
