April 20, 2025 Easter Sunday

And of course you can’t forget my beautiful Olivia‘s 14th birthday today.❤️

I must begin this post telling everyone what a beautiful countryside we have found in Czechia (Bohemia or the Czech Republic). We only spent one night in the small town of  Prostejov at the Motorest U Kola. It was adequate but nothing fancy but the provided breakfast made up for any downside of the hotel

On our way to Vienna l, because we had chosen the toll-free route, it took us all through the countryside. I tell you, driving through the Czech Republic was so peaceful and relaxing. So glad we decided on the no toll highways. (Plus, you know me, gotta save a buck). Absolutely no disappointment though. I can’t believe the massive green fields of grains growing. Everything is so green and lush and the road we’re on is so enjoyable.

We have been told that there is a border check between Czechia and Austria, and we are stopped where they look at our documents and let us go with no problem at all even though both countries are part of the EU and also of the Schengen Area

The first thing we do is go to the apartment where Walter used to live with his family as a child. It’s a very non-descript huge apartment building like so many in the city and we have no idea which apartment they were in so we couldn’t even ring a bell. We considered this to be one of our pilgrimages as we have driven through Europe and now that’s been accomplished.

Now we head for our new place called the Hotel Marien - Hof. It’s an old apartment, family owned and we get a parking spot and room number 10 on the third floor. It’s very spacious, clean and comfortable.

We decide to head downtown and although our host Franz has told us parking is a problem we decide to take the car anyway. We find a parking garage and then head for Saint Stephen’s Cathedral. Oh my God, we’ve seen some big cathedrals, but this one really takes the cake. It’s huge and we’re able to just walk in for a look.

There are so many people in this area, which is pedestrians only but we decide that it’s starting to get late and we’re very tired so we head back to our hotel to plan some dinner eat and then home to bed by 9:30.

There are even dollar stores here only it’s a Euro.
Here is some authentic Viennese food; mixed meat with sauerkraut and a bread dumpling. He didn’t like the dumpling

The weather again was about 20°C and sunny. We have been so fortunate….. Remember the penny in my shoe??
