April 22, 2025 Tuesday, off to Slovenia

We’re on the road by 8:30 on the north side of Vienna and had to drive through the city for one hour before we got out into the countryside. We’re on the no toll highway as we have been throughout Europe and the landscape in Austria is truly like in the movie, The Sound of Music. Amazing!!

There seems to be lots of small churches like this through the countryside.

My Richard loves people and talks to everyone. Love that guy. ❤️

Old and new.

We reached Slovenia around 1 PM and we found that the countryside didn’t look as prosperous as Austria and this was confirmed by our hotel receptionist at the Hotel  Taber in Maribor, Slovenia when we checked in. She told us that approximately 10,000 Slovenians work in Austria because of the economy there.

We took a 25 minute walk into the centre of the old part of town. We went to visit the palace and was told that there was a concert going on in the palace. We were getting a little bit late to get in, but when I told the fellow that I had come all the way there just to see the concert, he begrudgingly let us in. It was amazing. We listened for an hour to a flautist,  a guitarist and a pianist playing classical music. It was fantastic. We’re trying to get a little bit of culture. Lol.

This is a war memorial for those Sloveniens killed in the second world war. It was quite amazing as there were pictures of people between the slats on the Memorial.

The Drava River

Our trusty receptionist also recommended a restaurant called Sidro. It was about an 11 minute drive and right on the Drava River. It was amazing; the view and the food. We took a little walk by the river and then drove home.
