April 27, 2025 - Beautiful Venezia

Our breakfast is included at this B&B and we go
down to the tiniest breakfast area I’ve ever seen. Marcella has prepared our food and she is so friendly and met our every need.

The first thing we do is buy a two day pass on the Vaporetto, which is a water passenger ferry. I must say the transportation on this island is the simplest I’ve come across and you can just go anywhere you want. It’s not always the fastest because there are so many tourists here but it gets you where you wanna go. It’s Sunday today so it’s pretty busy.

We head down to San Marco’s Basilica, which was originally built between 829-836 and then rebuilt again between 1063-1094. This is probably the top tourist destination in Venice and we walked around and viewed the outside, but did not go in to the building. I know this sounds a little crazy  but once you’ve been into one of the huge basilicas, they’re all very similar and we just can’t observe all of that culture in one month. Lol.

From here we hop back on the vaporetto and ride out to the island of Murano, which is famous for their glass. We go to a glass factory where you can watch a demonstration of glass blowing. He made it look so easy, but you can see by the curves in the glass in that five minute demonstration, that these people are very skilled.

Now we will visit Burano, which takes a little bit longer to get out there. This island is famous for its lace. And you can go into a shop and see a little old lady with her needle making lace. Hopefully they pay a good wage for that. It’s also known for its colourful houses along the canals. It’s a very unique place.

We have put on over 11,000 steps today so now we can stop for some dinner and home for a game of cards.
