April 8, 2025 Ghent, Belgium

Despite the masses of crowds that are in this little town, our night was so quiet and comfortable. After a bit of breakfast, we go situate our car in a more legal location.

Our first stop is Gravenstein, Castle of the Counts. We are situated so close to everything right in the middle of the old part of the city. This old castle/fortress was built in 1180 but has been used as a prison, a court, I mint and even a cotton factory. We’re so blown away.

We stop and have some lunch before going on to visit the Belfrey where we go right to the top and have a view of the entire town of Ghent then onto another church called Saint Bavos Cathedral. It’s hard to believe these were all built during medieval times; very inspiring.

It seems that everywhere you go there are massive amounts of steps. And lots of them are circular staircases so not only are you climbing, but you’re getting dizzy at the same time. I’m certainly not complaining.

We even had time for a cruise on the river Leie a whole nother view of the city

We have reservations at Mosquito Coast for dinner and that will be the end of our day. We’re home by 8:15 in bed by 8:45 but we have had one full day.
