Day 5 April 5, 2025

 We both had a very interrupted night sleep. We were both awake at about 2 o’clock and couldn’t go back to sleep till four. We looked through a few maps to figure out what we were gonna do when we got up and thankfully, we were able to fall back to sleep till 9 o’clock.

It’s another fantastic day with the sun shining and completely blue skies with a temperature of 24°C. We don’t rush through our morning as it’s going to be another big day.

We set off for the Eiffel Tower with hopes of climbing to the very top. We walked all the way there which was about 4 kn. We walked along the Seine and there were so many people walking and running and biking. There were so many tour boats, along with tugs and small boats. You could see the crowds build as we got closer and once we got there, it was just a mass of people. We got in line to buy tickets to take the elevator to the very top floor and stood in line for about an hour before we finally were at the elevator. Apparently there had been a problem and the elevator was closed for a short while. The cost was over €72 but worth every penny. The views were spectacular.




We left there with the intention of walking to the L’Arc de Triomphe de l’Etoile but both of us were so hungry that we stopped for a bite to eat and a beer.


After our bellies were full, we continued on to the L’Arc de Triomphe.  The crowds were just massive. I guess you gotta remember that it’s Saturday and probably even locals wouldn’t be visiting some of these places. Although I can’t imagine if you lived in such a touristy town that you would want to go and see anyhing on a Saturday. 


By this time, it’s around 5 o’clock and we are both exhausted and decide to catch the Metro back to our apartment. We got on M1 by mistake when we should have got on the M9. It was not a problem as we just got off at the first stop and made our way back. We arrived home at about 630 both exhausted but satisfied with our day.

And I must comment about our apartment location. It appears to be three buildings off of the road and extremely quiet. We have to walk down two hallways before getting to our place.

Day 4 April 4, 2025

 This morning we don’t get up until 9 AM which is extremely unusual for Richard. He’s a real early riser but I think I walked the living hell out of him yesterday.  I’ve made reservations to visit the Catacombs of Paris today, but it’s not until 230 so we don’t rush getting ourselves ready this morning. In fact, we hauled two mattresses down from the upper loft to make the bed more comfortable for us tonight. I have to say that that is one of the worst parts of this little apartment. The bed is not meant for us creatures of comfort.  Today I’m going to give Richard a break and we’ll take the Metro down to the Catacombs. The transportation system in and around the Paris area is amazing. There’s the RER train system, the Metro and buses and trams. May 15, 2025 - Home Sweet Home

 We’re up bright and early even though our flight has been delayed till around 2 o’clock this afternoon. We have enough time to go for a nice long walk in a park right beside the hotel. I even got to take a stroll through one last graveyard. I guess I keep hoping to see my last name in one of them, but alas, I have not. One of the wheel struts from a Concorde which began its career in 1985 and officially retired in November 2003 Charles de Gaulle airport is still referred to as Roissy by Parisians.  The hotel provides a shuttle to the airport and I’m glad we have given ourselves lots of time because this airport is huge. In fact, I understand it is the largest airport in Europe. I swear we must’ve got our 10,000 steps just walking in the airport from check-in then security and then to our boarding terminal.
