May 4, 2025 - Now back to France

Before we leave this lovely little town we decide to take a walk around the village. It’s Sunday so you would think that church would be in since there is a beautiful church 50 m from our apartment. There’s a sign on the door and it says the different places where you can attend church so I guess they only have one priest for many parishes. The door is unlocked so we go into this church and it’s absolutely magnificent. Stained glass windows, a beautiful altar, a pipe organ and pews all lined up to serve at least 200 people. That’s what you see as you drive all through Europe are these huge churches in every tiny village you go through. It makes you wonder how they ever accomplished this. It must’ve been through the time and money of many devoted people.

We keep wandering around and looking in these ruins that litter the little village. There must be a law that prevents you from destroying or taking down anything old in all of Europe.

We have decided to take the autostrada to France. We compared times on no toll versus toll and the conclusion was: two and three-quarter hours toll versus seven hours no toll. What do you think? Richard certainly can’t take a driving day like yesterday. So off we go. We can see the road we were on yesterday that runs through all the villages and hamlets, but we go right over top of them and through some crazy tunnels that are so long. You can see why you have to pay to travel these highways

Our trusty GPS takes us directly to our new B&B. Here we are five minutes from Nice, France and 15 minutes from Monaco. It’s very central. We arrive around 3 PM and our hostess Grace meets us at the gate, introduces herself as Grace Kelly from Monaco and shows us how to use the keys, the light switches, the water, etc. She’s a Filipino and she spends an extra hour telling me all about her family. She’s an absolutely lovely woman. We actually only booked for two days but we have now decided that we’re going to stay here three nights.

She tells us of the horrific hailstorm that has just hit Paris yesterday. Thank God we aren’t there yet.

Richard finds a dinner spot at a Mexican restaurant. The food is delicious and it’s very relaxing. We are right by the sea side of Nice so after dinner we take a walk down to the water. It is raining now so we cut our evening short and come home. We’re both pretty tired and for the first time since we have arrived in Europe, we turn on the TV and start watching a Netflix movie.

GOODNIGHT ZZZZZZZ
