May 6, 2025 - Monaco

 Today we will tackle Monaco. It’s only about a 15 minute drive from our apartment so off we go. I can’t remember where we parked the last time I was in Monaco so I’m not much help. We pick the second parking lot that we see and get our car parked. It’s a beautiful huge car park and very easy parking. We didn’t realize that we were still almost at the top of the mountain that Monaco sits on.



We are right next to the exotic garden, but unfortunately it’s closed so we carry on through Princess Antoinette Park and then we noticed there are actual public elevators to help you to ascend and to descend  the mountain. We take about three of them until we are almost at the bottom and then continue our walk.



He can’t get away from the stairs. 


The first place we go to is the harbor. It is full of the most spectacular yachts you’ve ever seen out of the Cayman Islands and Malta and all over the world and they are huge. We go to a little café and it happens to be right on part of the Monaco Grand Prix. There’s a whole bunch of construction going on as they are getting ready for the race on May 25.


This is the car I want. Isn’t is cute? But I couldn’t take Richard cause he wouldn’t fit.

The stands are mostly put up now with less than three weeks till race day.  
Here he is, right where the cars will pass travelling up to speeds of 290 km/hr. 

After that, we walk our way to the Grand Casino. There are all kinds of expensive cars parked in front like Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, Mercedes, Morgan’s and even a Mustang. We go inside, but unfortunately, you need a passport to get fully inside to play. Oh well, we didn’t wanna lose 100 bucks anyway.




If I can’t have the Fiat then I’ll have this one.

We start the trek back to our car, but I don’t think we took the same path although we did find a couple of elevators, one was 10 stories up. Anyway, we found old Betsy and off we went.



Now the fun really began; we found our way no problem out of Monaco and took the correct exit to La Trinite but three times! yes, three times we took the wrong turn and ended up back on the big highway. I think we paid the toll 2 or 3 times. Each time we screwed up Richard would yell out profanities and it was a little scary. We did eventually find our way back home.

Richard has found a place for sushi and I’ll go as long as I don’t have to get back in that bloody car again!!

Day 4 April 4, 2025

 This morning we don’t get up until 9 AM which is extremely unusual for Richard. He’s a real early riser but I think I walked the living hell out of him yesterday.  I’ve made reservations to visit the Catacombs of Paris today, but it’s not until 230 so we don’t rush getting ourselves ready this morning. In fact, we hauled two mattresses down from the upper loft to make the bed more comfortable for us tonight. I have to say that that is one of the worst parts of this little apartment. The bed is not meant for us creatures of comfort.  Today I’m going to give Richard a break and we’ll take the Metro down to the Catacombs. The transportation system in and around the Paris area is amazing. There’s the RER train system, the Metro and buses and trams. And there are all kinds of other things like taxis, Ubers and thousands of bicycles and scooters and motorcycles.  The catacombs are a network of about 300 km of tunnels under the city of Paris. May 15, 2025 - Home Sweet Home

 We’re up bright and early even though our flight has been delayed till around 2 o’clock this afternoon. We have enough time to go for a nice long walk in a park right beside the hotel. I even got to take a stroll through one last graveyard. I guess I keep hoping to see my last name in one of them, but alas, I have not. One of the wheel struts from a Concorde which began its career in 1985 and officially retired in November 2003 Charles de Gaulle airport is still referred to as Roissy by Parisians.  The hotel provides a shuttle to the airport and I’m glad we have given ourselves lots of time because this airport is huge. In fact, I understand it is the largest airport in Europe. I swear we must’ve got our 10,000 steps just walking in the airport from check-in then security and then to our boarding terminal.
