May 8, 2023 - Dijon

We hit the road by 7:00 and are already at our new place in Dijon by 11:30. It was a very uneventful drive, which is exactly what you want.

I asked Richard why they would name a town after a type of mustard. He just shakes his head. (Kidding)

Not sure if this is canola or mustard but you would think it is mustard

They let us check in early so now we have lots of time to go explore the centre of Dijon.

Richard has read that there is a market in the centre of town that he’d like to go to but when we arrive at 12:45 it’s already closed. Hopefully we can go there tomorrow morning. But the good news is we have found ourselves in the old part of the city and are surrounded by old buildings so we just start wandering.

We are absolutely amazed by the buildings there We will have to do some exploring after lunch.

We brought food with us and our plan is to find a park and make our lunch there. We found a beautiful spot with a huge statue in fountain and prepared our lunch of croissants ham, cheese, tomatoes, onion, and mustard.

From there, we wander back to the old town. We have already seen one of the churches, but now we go to take a look at the palace. OMG! It is an amazing place. We just kept wandering through the palace from one area to another. We had to stop twice for a beer and wine, and the weather was perfect.

A public toilet. What a concept!

This is the Owl of Dijon. You’re supposed to rub it for good luck.

We find the shop with the Dijon mustard and we go in and Richard actually buys a jar of Dijon.

Just as we were finishing up it started raining so back to the car we went and came home.

We decide to go for some fish and chips, but it’s a bit of a disappointment as there’s more batter than fish but oh well I’m full.

We’re back home by 8:40 and that’s a wrap
